Salt Spring Island Wedding Photography and Videography

Authentic storytelling and curated celebrations by the Folklore Weddings collective

Salt Spring Island Wedding Photography and Videography with Folklore Wedding Company is led by local photographers and filmmakers Sydney Woodward & Stasia Garraway. Living on Salt Spring Island shapes how we work with light, tide, weather, and location, and that connection flows into every gallery and film we create.

As Salt Spring Island wedding photographers and videographers, our team offers cohesive Salt Spring Island wedding media that feels rooted in the landscape. We blend digital, film, and tintype photography with cinematic storytelling, collaborating with favourite farms, oceanfront venues, sailboats, and forest clearings across the island.

Alongside photography and videography, we offer curated elopement and wedding packages on Salt Spring Island. Our planning team works closely with us to shape each celebration from the ground up, collaborating with a handful of local venue partners and trusted vendors to create meaningful locations, thoughtful timelines, and a wedding day that flows smoothly from start to finish. We also maintain a dedicated Salt Spring Island vendor resource, a living guide that helps couples discover local venues, florists, caterers, accommodations, and musicians so they can explore the wider island community and find the right fit for their celebration.

You might reach out for a Salt Spring Island wedding photographer, a Salt Spring Island videographer, or a unified team for complete Salt Spring Island wedding media. Each curated package brings planning support together with cohesive photography and videography, centred on honest emotion, gentle direction, and the natural beauty of the island, with imagery and film that bring you back to the feeling of Salt Spring every time you revisit your wedding story.

What Folks Are Saying

Iwona Vandermeer

Sydney for capturing our wedding day so beautifully on video. The highlight he’s created for us brings the whole day back to life - we can’t stop rewatching the footage and smiling. Sydney has been so great to work with in all stages"

"Thinking back to our wedding day - it all feels like a dream.

The mix of digital and tintype gave us some really beautiful keepsakes as well as capturing some more candid moments to accompany our memories. Unexpected bonus of the tintype process is that at least one uncle is going to look like an axe murderer in the family photos.”

"Relaxed and personable...

Byron & Hanna Fry

Captured beautifully in both digital & traditional Tin-Type style photography. Our day was not just a celebration of love, but also a reflection of crafts and passions. The added, late-night, moments he created in Tin-Type for us and our guests brought an incredibly unique and memorable touch.”

We are over the moon to share a glimpse of our special farm wedding!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where are you located, and do you travel for weddings?

Folklore Wedding Company is proudly based on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. From our home base, we regularly serve weddings across Salt Spring, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and Victoria.

Travel is a big part of what we do, and we’re always excited to follow love wherever it leads. Whether your celebration is tucked away in the forests of the West Coast, on the mainland, or across the world, we’re happy to be there. Travel fees may apply outside our local region, but we take care of all our own logistics so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

2. What services do you offer?

We’re a full-service wedding media and planning collective. Our offerings include:
 • Photography in digital, 35mm & 120mm analog film, and tintype formats.
 • Videography in a cinematic, story-driven style.
 • Wedding planning and coordination from intimate elopements and micro weddings to full-size weddings with larger guest lists.
 • Our Portrait Booth, a modern, elevated take on the traditional wedding photo booth.
 • Specialty extras like tintype portrait sessions and collaborations with artists for live painting or other creative experiences.

You can book one service or combine them all for a seamless, curated wedding experience. Every offering is designed to be flexible, so your day reflects your story and priorities.

3. Can we hire you just for photography or videography, or do we need to book both?

You can absolutely hire us for photography only, videography only, or both. We know every couple has different priorities, and sometimes you may already have another photographer or videographer you’re excited to work with. If that’s the case, we’ll connect with them in advance and coordinate so that we’re all working seamlessly together on your wedding day. Clear communication and collaboration are really important to us  your experience should feel smooth, not stressful.

That said, many couples choose to book both photography and videography with Folklore because having one team cover everything comes with big benefits. We know each other’s rhythms, we share a common vision, and we’re able to work in sync without ever stepping on each other’s toes. This creates a calmer environment for you and ensures that every moment is captured beautifully in both stills and film. You also get a consistent creative style across your photos and video, and a single point of contact for planning and communication, which makes the whole process easier.

4. How do we book you for our wedding?

The first step is reaching out through our website contact form so we can learn about your wedding vision. From there, we’ll set up a call to go over your plans and answer any questions. If you’d like to move forward, we’ll send a contract and request a booking retainer. Once those are complete, your date is secured and we’re officially part of your wedding team.

After that, we’ll work with you to plan your coverage, build a timeline, and talk through any special requests. Our goal is to make the process simple and supportive from day one. Booking Folklore means you have a team on your side from the planning stage all the way through to your wedding day.

5. Do you have insurance and backup equipment?

Yes. We carry full liability insurance, which many venues require, and we can provide proof of coverage if your venue requests it. Having insurance protects you, your guests, and your venue, and it’s something we consider an essential part of running a professional wedding business.

We also bring backup cameras, lenses, film, and memory cards to every wedding. Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime moments, and we take every precaution to make sure no detail is missed. Our couples can feel confident that even in the rare event of equipment issues, their memories will be safely captured.

6. Do you work with all types of couples and weddings?

Yes. We celebrate love in every form, and we are proud to work with LGBTQ+ couples, multicultural weddings, interfaith ceremonies, and families of all backgrounds. Inclusivity isn’t just a value for us, it’s at the heart of how we approach weddings.

Our focus is on creating a comfortable, supportive environment where your story can shine. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, and however you choose to celebrate, we’ll be there to honor it with the same care and artistry.

7. How far in advance should we book?

We recommend booking 8–12 months in advance, especially for peak summer and fall weekends on Salt Spring and Vancouver Island, which fill up quickly. For destination weddings or larger celebrations, reaching out even earlier is a good idea.

That said, we understand that not every wedding is planned far ahead. If your date is sooner, we may still have space, so please reach out regardless. The earlier you book, the sooner we can start working with you to design a photography, videography, or planning experience that feels effortless.

8. What makes Folklore Weddings different?

We’re more than just a media team , we’re a collective of artists and planners. Our photographers and videographers bring a blend of digital, analog film (35mm & 120mm), and tintype photography to your day, offering a range of formats you won’t find everywhere. Our planners create thoughtful, stress-free experiences for elopements, micro weddings, and full-size weddings alike.

And then there are the details that make us truly unique: our Portrait Booth, which elevates guest portraits into editorial keepsakes; our analog and tintype processes that bring heirloom value to your gallery; and our collaborative approach, which ensures that every couple feels seen and cared for. Above all, we’re storytellers at heart, committed to documenting your wedding with artistry, attention, and a sense of timelessness.
