What is the Portrait Booth, and how is it different from a traditional photo booth? +

Our Portrait Booth is an elevated alternative to the classic wedding photo booth. Instead of a cramped kiosk and props, it’s a professionally run portrait studio set up right at your reception. Guests step into a beautifully designed space and are photographed by a Folklore photographer, resulting in portraits that feel editorial, timeless, and frame-worthy. We offer two types of Portrait Booths: • A Digital Portrait Booth, where guests receive professional-quality digital images in a private online gallery. • A Tintype Portrait Booth, where we photograph each guest on authentic metal plates using 19th-century techniques and also capture digital portraits alongside them. Each tintype guest receives their one-of-a-kind plate plus a digital version, while the digital portraits provide a full companion gallery of everyone who steps in front of the booth.

How is the booth designed and set up? +

We don’t just bring a backdrop,we work with your venue, planner, florist, and designer to create a setting that feels integrated into the style of your wedding. Sometimes that means a clean, minimal studio look; other times it might involve florals, décor pieces, or furniture to elevate the atmosphere. In some cases, there may be additional charges from florists or designers if we lean further into custom design or large-scale installations. We’ll always outline these details ahead of time and work with your creative team to ensure the booth looks stunning and fits seamlessly into your reception.

Do guests receive digital copies or physical portraits? +

Yes. For our Digital Portrait Booth, each guest receives a professional portrait delivered via a private online gallery after the wedding. They can download their images in high resolution and share them however they like. For our Tintype Booth, each guest receives a handmade tintype plate created on-site as well as a digital copy of that plate. In addition, we also photograph guests digitally alongside the tintype process, so you’ll receive a complete digital gallery of every guest portrait from the booth in addition to the heirloom plates. Our tintype booth packages start with 30 handmade 5x6 plates included. We can create up to around 60 tintypes in one wedding, though the exact number depends on the flow and length of your wedding day. If you’d like more than the base 30, additional plates can be created for a per-tintype fee.

How are the tintypes delivered? +

The physical tintypes are carefully packaged and mailed to the couple within a few weeks of the wedding. From there, it’s the couple’s responsibility to distribute the plates to their guests. Many couples enjoy this part of the process, as it gives them a chance to reconnect with family and friends after the wedding by mailing or hand-delivering these heirloom keepsakes.

How is the cost of the Portrait Booth covered? +

Couples typically book the Portrait Booth as part of their wedding package. However, for our tintype offering, there’s also the option to allow guests to make contributions or donations to help offset the total cost. This can be a meaningful way for friends and family to support the creation of these heirloom portraits, while still ensuring you have the booth at your wedding. We’ll discuss which payment structure makes the most sense for your celebration, whether that’s covering the booth outright or opening it up to guest contributions.

Why should we add a Portrait Booth to our wedding? +

The Portrait Booth always becomes one of the social hubs of a wedding. Guests love gathering around it, watching each other step in front of the camera, and cheering on friends and family as they have their portraits made. It adds energy and excitement to the reception while also giving people a chance to connect. For you, it’s also a way to capture beautiful portraits of all your guests. From grandparents to best friends, you’ll have a gallery that documents not just your story, but everyone who came to celebrate with you. Many couples tell us these portraits become some of their most meaningful wedding memories.
