Kelly Zantingh

Kelly (she/her) is an artist and photographer living and working on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people (Victoria, BC). She graduated with a B.A.H in Studio Art from the University of Guelph in 2016, has exhibited in Toronto, Montreal, Dawson City and Victoria, and has held artist residencies in Portugal, Nova Scotia, and the Yukon.

Her photography centres on analog processes: she doesn't shoot on (or even own) a digital camera for her own work. Film's grain gives the photos their gritty look, and it captures light and colour in a way that's simply unmatched in the digital world. Sometimes the process leaves evidence in the final images as 'imperfections'. To Kelly, they're the charm of analog photography. She does minimal post-shoot editing to keep that natural effect.

She strives to create work that is vulnerable, honest, atmospheric and dreamy, fascinated by relationships, intimacy, and the bonds between partners, lovers, and families, especially outside in natural light, getting experimental.

Film is Kelly's heart, and every package is built around it, but each one also includes digital coverage alongside the film. Digital rides along as the complementary safety net: it doesn't compete with the film work, it backs it up, so nothing from your day goes uncaptured even in the moments film can't reach.
