Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are some of British Columbia’s most inspiring places to celebrate love. From the rugged wilderness of North Vancouver Island to the wild beaches of Tofino, the creative heart of Salt Spring Island, the urban charm of Victoria, and the quiet shores of Gabriola, every community offers its own beauty, artistry, and rhythm. Together, they form one of the most unique wedding destinations in Canada, rich with local talent, natural wonder, and a deep sense of place.

Our Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands wedding resource pages are designed to help couples discover local wedding vendors, photographers, and planners who know these landscapes best. Whether you’re dreaming of a forest elopement, a seaside celebration, or a cozy farm gathering, these pages connect you with trusted professionals rooted in the communities where your story will unfold.

A core part of this project is encouraging couples to work with local vendors, supporting small businesses, reducing travel emissions, and strengthening the island economies that make these communities thrive. Choosing local means celebrating sustainably, meaningfully, and in a way that gives back to the places we love.

About the Folklore Weddings Vendor Collective

At the heart of this project is the Folklore Weddings Vendor Collective, a growing network of wedding professionals across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands who share our values of creativity, collaboration, and community.

Vendors who are part of the Collective are those we’ve built deeper relationships with people our creative team has worked alongside directly, whether through weddings, styled shoots, or ongoing collaborations. These are the florists, planners, photographers, and venues whose work we know personally and wholeheartedly recommend.

For Collective members, we go beyond directory listings to create feature interviews, collaborative Instagram reels, and written or video storytelling that highlight their craft and connection to place. Our goal is to shine a light on the artistry and heart within each community, helping couples see the people behind the work and the beauty that comes from hiring local.

We also feature many additional local vendors outside the direct Collective, ensuring that couples have a wide range of choices and that every community’s talent is represented and celebrated.

If you’re a Vancouver Island or Gulf Islands–based vendor and would like to learn more about being listed or joining the Collective, we’d love to hear from you. Reach out anytime at Info@folkloreweddings.com
for details on how to be part of this growing network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should we consider supporting local vendors in the region we’re getting married?

A: Choosing vendors who live and work locally, on the island or community where your wedding will happen, brings several benefits:

They already know the venues, the weather patterns, the local logistics, and island-specific challenges.

Your investment stays in the community: local businesses, craftspeople, artists, hospitality workers benefit directly.

Fewer travels means less carbon footprint and fewer logistics for you (and them).
Using this resource lets you connect with vendors who are rooted in the place where you’ll say your “I do.”

Q: What other factors should we think about when planning a wedding on the Islands?

A: A few additional key considerations:

Travel & logistics for guests: Islands mean extra travel time, ferry bookings, possibly accommodations for longer stays.

Season & weather: Island micro-climates vary—think about timing (rain, wind, tides) and backup plans for outdoor venues.

Vendor availability & capacity: Some vendors may book months in advance, especially for peak seasons or more remote locations.

Local regulations & venue rules: Some island venues are more remote, have noise restrictions, limited vendor access or accommodations.

Sustainability & local sourcing: Because many islands have limited access, sourcing décor, catering, or rentals locally or planning for transport can make a difference in cost and environmental impact.

Q: How does being part of the Folklore Weddings Vendor Collective benefit me and how does it differ from just being listed?

A: When a vendor becomes part of our Vendor Collective, several unique things happen:

They join a deeper relationship with our creative team: we may feature interviews, collaborative Instagram reels, storytelling content around their work and place.

They show up as a trusted recommendation that our team has worked with and knows personally.

They still benefit from visibility on our vendor/resource pages, but with added layers of promotion and community.

Vendors who are listed (but not part of the Collective) still appear in our directory and regional pages, so couples have a wide range of choice and every community is represented.
