There are places on the coast that ask you to slow down, and this is one of them. Weathered stone, the smell of the sea coming up off the harbour, light moving slowly through the afternoon. Andrea and Ted’s Hastings House wedding leaned into all of it, unhurried and warm, the sort of gathering where nobody is performing and everyone is simply present. Our job on days like this is small and steady: to stay close, watch the light, and let the place set the pace. Why shoot both digital and 35mm film?

We photographed Andrea and Ted’s day on digital and 35mm film together, and the two carry a wedding differently. Digital is faithful and quick, good for the fast turns of a day and the low light of an evening. Film is slower and softer, with grain and colour that feel closer to memory than record. Running both means a couple gets the clarity of one and the mood of the other, and neither has to do all the work alone. It is part of how we like to approach photography as one team.
