Kirsten & Parker - Sea Breeze Lodge Wedding on Hornby Island

Kirsten and Parker's Sea Breeze Lodge wedding brought two families out to Hornby Island for a day that felt unhurried and close to the water. Light moved through everything: the getting-ready rooms, the ceremony, the head table set with flowers, and the dogs weaving between guests.

There is a particular quality to light on this stretch of coast, soft in the morning and warm as the afternoon settles. We were lucky to document it alongside a group of makers who each brought care to their part of the day, and this post gathers all of them in one place. Why hold a wedding at Sea Breeze Lodge on Hornby Island?

Hornby Island sits at the far edge of the Gulf Islands, a ferry ride and then another ferry ride from the world most people know, and that distance is part of what makes it feel like its own place. The Sea Breeze Lodge gave the day its shape: a shoreline to gather along, room for family to spread out, and the kind of easy coastal setting that lets a celebration breathe. The Dress and the Fabric Behind It

Kirsten's dress was made by Shae Dean Barry, sewn to fit the day rather than a rack. The fabric came from Olga's Fabric Lane, chosen with the light and the setting in mind, and it carried beautifully through the ceremony and into the evening. A handmade dress moves differently in photographs; it belongs to one person and one day, and you can see that in every frame of Kirsten by the water.

Flowers for the Table and the Family

The bouquets and boutonnieres, Kirsten's hair florals, the head table arrangements, and her Grandma's corsage were all made by Emma Sheurwater of Keep Floral. The florals tied the generations together, from the head table down to the small corsage pinned for a grandmother, which is exactly the kind of detail that makes a room feel like family rather than an event.

Hair and Makeup on the Morning

The morning began quietly with getting ready, coffee going around and the rooms filling slowly with people and laughter. Makeup for Kirsten, her sister, and a few others was done by Chloe Lorraine. Hair for Kirsten, her sister, and several others was done by Jacklyn Van Bourgondien of Unbridled Beauty. These hours are some of our favourites to photograph, because everyone is still barefoot and honest and nothing has been performed yet.

Rings, Leather, and the Dogs

The dogs, Scout and Deke, were part of the day too. Scout's collar and leash and Deke's harness and leash were handmade by Dani Reiser of Mountain Leather Co. The wedding rings the couple exchanged were made by Emma Glover, small objects that will carry the day with them for a long time after the tents come down and the ferries head home.

What did the evening at Sea Breeze Lodge look like?

As the light dropped, the celebration drew in around the tables and the shoreline went gold and then blue. The custom cocktails for the evening were poured by Jack Thomas of the lodge team, a fitting close to a day built around gathering by the water. Nobody hurried the ending; on Hornby, the last ferry has already gone, so the evening simply keeps going until the fire does.
